Graduation
The Commencement Ceremony
Upon
successful completion of the MA Program, each participant takes part in the
commencement ceremony. This ceremony originated in the Middle Ages when it was
the event at which university graduates were initiated into teaching
profession. The City College's first commencement took place in 1853 at Niblo's
Garden, a large theater on Broadway near Houston Street. Seventeen young men
were graduated from the Free Academy of New York, as the College was then
known. |
